Default High End Content & Other Questions

Hello all.
I've been doing some reading on guild wars as well as playing very lightly on a friend's account.
I have some questions for the community ... and some background of myself.
I'm currently a WoW subscriber ... and very casual player ... a few (5-15) a week. I *LOVE* the world ... everything about it is immersive and beautiful.
My first impressions of guild wars are that it is a bit bland and ... well, not immersive.

1) As people that have played this game to some depth, do you find that to be generally true? Or is the world engaging and alive to you?

Now, despite the fact that i've felt the landscape/townspeople a bit bland, i've only played quite a short time and find the gameplay to be engaging (very diablo 2 + dungeon siege).
But my concern is that ... it will get tiresome and not have high end content.

I know about the level 20 cap (that is probably my main attraction to the game ... an easily reachable cap) but I am wondering if at level 20 there is a LOT of PVE content ...

2) Is there an estimate of PVE hours that can be expected to play the high end content? Are there enough rewards to keep it engaging?

3) I would like to do some PVP as well, and this game looks to have that covered, but i'm wondering if anyone can make comparisons to the PVP of this game to a game like WoW or Diablo 2 or Unreal Tournament...how does it lean?

Basically I really *want* this game to grab me and keep me interested. But I'm just concerned about the PVE content and the interactivity of (and level of caring for) the world in itself.

Any answers would be *much* appreciated!!

different tastes so all i can personally say is that i am completely PVE and think it will keep me occupied.

also a new chapter with about the same amount of new content as the full original game is expected twice a year with new things added for more variety.

i see this as an ongoing project especially as the chapters are optional to buy and you can mix and match

I common misinterpritation many have been making in recent weeks is comparing this game to WoW. It's not WoW, It's not Diablo 2, It's not Starcraft, and its not Unreal.

This game is and was not made for its PvE aspects, people are not flocking to this game in the thousands, for it's end-game content, raid bosses and the like. They are coming for the group oriented, skill based pvp. That is what this game is centered around.

Now I like PvE content as much as the next guy, but I'm playing Guild Wars for its PvP content. I'd like some upgrades, or additions, to put some fun end-game hard bosses and the like in, but I can't promise anything, seeing as how I'm not a developer. If you play games for the PvE content, I'd recomend staying with WoW, or maybe trying EQ2. This is not an MMORPG, it is a CORPG

CORPG = Competitive Online Role Playing Game

Theres a bunch of missions post level 20 that are really long and involve fighting a lot of very difficult and cool enemies, while I'm not sure the exact # of post 20 missions, I'm at the 4th one so far and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight as of yet.

Personally, i dont find the Guild Wars world bland at all, I love it, i got GW Sunday and ive been playing like crazy, the world to me is immersive and alive (or dead depending on your area...) Pre-Searing world i almost craped myself, its very colorful and full of life, ive never experianced lag, mainly because of how they handle the areas. I dont mind the lvl 20 cap, it eliminates alot of lvl grinding and spawn camping, like i said ive only been playing for 3 days almost nonstop, im a Lvl10 1/2 Ranger/Mesmer, most of the time i dont go kill everything i see, there are tons of quests rangeing in difficulty and they are all well thought out and developed, and lvl 20 isnt very "easily reachable" unless your a insomniac who has no life there will be new "chapters" released, think of them as expansion packs, they will contain tons of new content, i think i remember them saying they will be released every 6 months? PVP is limited to arenas mostly i think, theres no free for all killing like in diablo or UT, which i personally love because no one can just come up and cut you down, if you just want PVp you can create a PVP only character when you first start GW, other then that theres the good old RP character that can do everything
what really caught my eye was the no fees aspect and the beta screens i saw, it is waayyy worth it IMO i used to play EQ, EQ2 and UO, and this is just waaay more immersive and interesting to me.

actually if you consider the amount of pve time, area ,and missions/quests out there with the tiny relative corner pvp has you could just as well say this was a PVE game with a very nicel pvp corner as well

never fear as i will never begrudge you your pvp joys

the better they make either part the better it is for all of us

Rock -

PvP has several different modes. There are arena's, which are basically randomly matched teams throw into an arena. This is quick and easy to get into, and loads of fun. Perfect for any PvP newcomer. Great if you just wanna kill some folks for an hour before heading to bed.

There are also situational PvP matches. These have goals such as killing the opposing 'commander' (usually known as the Ghostly Hero,) or stealing the articfact, etc.

And then there is GvG combat. (Which is a class of it's own, really.)

Exile.. To be honest.. Level 20 is VERY easily accessable.. Give me a group of 6 people who know how to play the game (such as myself) and I can get to level 20 in 2 days tops.

I work, full time (8-6 hr shifts) and school (4 hrs) every day (no school on weekends) and I still fit in enough time to play. I'm level 20 right now, and I started on retail. (as well as a level 8 warrior and a 13 elementalist)

Starting to sound really good.
I'm definitely going to pick it up ... if for nothing else, reaching level 20 will take me probably longer than i invest in most $50 games anyway...and with no monthly commitment, i won't feel bad.
But as far as "raid bosses" and that sort of content ... am i to understand that there isn't any (just my impression from Erod's post)?
Meaning...I can't get 6 or 8 friends (depending on party limit size) together to tackle a dungeon and fight an epic boss for a chance of some awesome loot to drop?
Just curious...

Exactly. This is something a lot of people miss. Even if getting to level 20 is easy compared to maxing out in other MMORPG's, it still takes longer than more single-player type games (I'd say 40-60 hours to reach level 20 the first time, faster of course for an experienced veteran). Not to mention the journey there is a lot funner and most people say the game doesn't even really start until 20 (the point of ascension).

If there is one thing I definately don't feel about this game, it's blandness. I was a bit iffed when I first saw the pre-searing areas - rolling hills and nice green grass and lovely flowers isn't exactly my cup of tea .
Once you exit the pre-searing world and enter the "real" game, I think the world design becomes nothing short of stunning. Scorched areas and ruins in a vast post apocalyptic world is a bit more to my liking, and there are many absolutely stunning views over this ruined land with soft rays of light streaming down from a beautiful yellow/red sky. Overused bloom effect perhaps, but it looks really, really nice .
This game has some of the most magnificent and beautiful world design I have ever seen in a game - and definately in an mmorpg (have to admit that I'm a fan of WoW's cartoony style as well).

Just made it to Yak's Bend last night, so now it's mountains and snow for a while - can't wait to see the jungle and desert later on.

Are there at least *epic* bosses?

And Miths, the world is beginning to sound awesome as well...
I'm definitely a go.
Probably pick it up today ... but I'm still curious about content!

Personally I came from a complete PVE game.. Everquest. I am currently having a WONDERFUL time with the game. I played Everquest for 3 years and EQ2 since the release. Guildwars has some amazing quests and missions. I am very pleased with the progression thus far in the game (Level 12). The cinematic's during the missions can keep me quite enthralled and involved. But as far as paying the 50$, I believe it is worth it, 100%. Good luck hope to seeing ya ingame!

Rock the consesus is 30% of the PvE is pre 20th level and the other 70% is for 20th level characters. One of the nice things that can be overlooked with the level cap is monsters aren't limited by the cap believe me level 30+ monsters seem pretty damn "Epic" Also the futrue chapters that are scheduled for bi-annul release are to be geared almost completely for 20th level and are supposed to be roughly the same scope in size and content as the entire game is now.

I am a casual player (about 1-2 hours every night) who is 90% PvE and 10% PvP, and I can see myself playing through this first chapter well after next chapter is released. I recently took a peek at the a player generated world map with the majority of the regions charted, and it gave me smile , knowing I would be busy having fun for quite a while, and not having to pay any monthly fees too!

Thank you Loviatar - a picture really is worth a thousand words. Yeah I would have to classify Glint as *EPIC* LOL - least it feels that way if you get the kill (sorry that will only be funny for those who have had the pleasure of a Glint toasting)
